In the beginning the butcher has to take the name of Allah and then slit the throat of the animal to be slaughtered.  The animal can be chopped into pieces only when all the blood flows out from the body.

There are many stores which sell out Halal Lamb like meat, etc. Halal meat is usually expensive as compared to other meat but it is said that as the process of Halal involves draining the blood of the animal completely, the possibility of it causing diseases is almost negligible and this meat lasts longer also.
